Slow Explanation of the Alcohol Wash for Varroa Sampling

Important things that i did not mention in the video:
1. Select and shake a frame of emerging brood in order to get the most accurate sample of infestation rate. For a half cup sample from one of these frames, every three mites can be gauged as 1% of infestation. More than 2% and things can go wrong.
2.August is when mite levels start to peak in California. That hive later expanded to up to 10% in October, but is now hanging out around 4 percent. I will clean them up with Oxalic Acid Dribble when they are broodless.
3. The cup has a taper which allows dead mites to be washed to the bottom as the cup swirls. The screen is #8 hardware cloth. Remove the bee basket to efficiently count all of the dead mites.
4. As always, have fun beekeeping!
