Hillsborough County is asking residents to weigh in on how to spend more than $700 million in federal funding aimed at helping the community recover from four recent hurricanes.
The county expects to receive $709,324,000 through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Community Development Block Grant program. The funding is designated for long-term recovery and mitigation efforts following Hurricane Idalia in 2023 and Hurricanes Debby, Helene and Milton in 2024.
"We will give a relevant response to any questions that they [residents] may have and those comments along with certainly what the county commissioners need and what the Housing and Urban Development has required will shape this plan," said Hillsborough Assistant County Administrator Cheryl Howell.
