Is Spotify's new announcement pay to play? Today we are talking about Spotify's news that smacked us all across the faces a couple days ago when they announced that they would be introducting a new scheme; trialling a reduced royalty rate in turn for higher promotion within their algorithmically curated personal listening experiences.
Sorry, what? my mind went a dozen places at once! Isn't this a conflict of interest? This sounds a lot like pay to play? But what if this is our chance to tap into a big break? Is this going to work? Is this payola? Is this ethical? how much can I really be losing if I'm not really making anything to begin with, and will I end up making more because more people will be listening? Is this the start of something much bigger?
Well, I don't have all the answers to all of those questions, but in today's video we delve into the facts we do have and go through their official statement together, so we can better understand the little information spotify has actually provided us with!
Let me know in the comments below how you feel about this new information! Do you think it's a good thing? Will this be opening doors, or closing them for you? Do you think this is ethical?
