It could perform up to 5,000 additions or subtractions per second, 357 multiplications and 38 divisions per second — impressive numbers for the time, but tiny compared to any current smartphone.
The ENIAC was not programmable like modern computers. Programming was done manually, using cable connections and switches — a time-consuming and complex process.
Despite its limitations, ENIAC demonstrated the potential of electronic computers and paved the way for the creation of more advanced machines. It was permanently shut down in 1955.
