One of humanity's biggest challenges is how we're going to house and organize 9.7 billion people by 2050, while dealing with climate change, resource scarcity, and massive inequality. But here's what's interesting - one of the most beloved sci-fi universes actually gives us some fascinating examples of how different societies might approach these challenges.
Star Wars isn't just about lightsabers and space battles. Each world shows us a completely different approach to architecture and urban planning, and honestly, some of these fictional solutions mirror real debates happening in architecture today. From the organic cities of Naboo to the brutal efficiency of the Death Star, each world takes a different approach to organizing space and society.
Today I want to look at four iconic Star Wars locations and break them down from a design and urban planning perspective. Some of these concepts are surprisingly close to real architectural proposals, while others show us approaches we'd probably want to avoid.
