See You Again (Charlie Puth, Wiz Khalifa), Cover by Tiana Xiao

Hey guys!
This was a cover that I originally had to dust off and dig out from the collection of songs that I had recorded and not released.
When I first sang it in 2016 (or 2015?), I don’t think I sang it with the same type of emotion as I did in this version you are hearing now.

I knew that the song was written under the context of commemorating loved ones who passed away—not only was it a tribute to Paul Walker, but also when Charlie Puth wrote the song, he had thought about a friend who passed away. It is such an emotionally charged song and it was really hard for me to grasp the emotional parts of it initially.

But I decided to re-record the vocals at home (since I can’t go to a studio right now…. or am reluctant to at least, due to COVID-19), and this is the first full song that I properly recorded using my Rode NT1A at home. I still have a lot to learn from home-recording, but I hope that I had captured what I wanted to convey through the song well enough for the audience to feel.

I thought this song a fitting one for the current situation in the world, with hundreds of thousands of people losing their loved ones from the COVID-19. While I am fortunate enough not to have had any loved ones succumb to this pandemic, I did think of my grandfather, who passed away when I was in my penultimate year of college, while I recorded the song. My grandfather was one of the most intelligent, hard-working and honorable people that I ever knew—a person with utmost integrity—and he has had a great deal of influence on my life, and I owe many of my life’s successes to him. Whenever I think of him, I think of how lucky I was to have had him in my life.

So this cover is a tribute to my grandpa, who had been a hero to me in my own life.

At the same time, this cover is also a tribute to the heroes to have fought vigorously on the front line of this coronavirus.

And last but not least, this cover is to commemorate all the individuals who passed away recently during the COVID outbreak.

I also want to thank Lex, my big brother, for the meticulous work he has done on the mix, saving this recording from becoming a total disaster, in part due to my limited gear and/or knowledge of recording something completely by myself (home studio, which is the less than ideal environment when you don’t have soundproof walls or echo absorbing foam everywhere, with a 1 year old kid playing in the other room, and occasional construction work on the floor above you).

查理·普斯創作這首歌，是為了紀念他一位過世的朋友。原意就是致敬去世的親人或朋友，原本也在電影 Fast & Furious 裡面，致敬Paul Walker的。這首歌非常動人心弦，起初我並不能完全把握那種心情。但是當現在疫情在全世界蔓延，人們痛失所愛，我和家人雖然倖免於難，卻也感同身受。

這首Cover，我首先想致敬因為疫情而去世的英雄們，謝謝你們用生命在抗疫一線幫我們擋風擋雨。 第二我想緬懷所有因為疫情而不幸去世的人。 最後，我想緬懷我外公，因為他也是我生命裡的英雄。我外公是一名睿智、但樸素，又正直的人，在我成⻑的歲月裡對我各方面的影響甚多。如果沒有他，也沒有今日的我。

謝謝Lex幫我mix這首歌，你實在太難了。 🤩這是我第一首在家裡面錄的完整的Cover，也是我第一 次全部自己錄。設備不夠好(尤其是身邊太多雜音，比如樓上裝修，小孩玩耍，沒有吸音棉，房間 ——也只能在我客廳某個⻆落錄)。希望我日後會進步，自己錄音錄得越來越好!
