2012 GMC Acadia (AWD) Power Steering Noise After Replacing Gear (second time)

2023-02-17 - this issue is still present. Ashburn Village Sunoco missed the mark on this one. I brought the Acadia back to the shop several times and each time they told us there was nothing wrong. So we gave up going back to them, but the problem persists, and seems to have gotten worse since the last update. What is wrong with northern Virginia mechanics? Where do they get their 5 star reviews from? Don't let their niceness fool you. John and Lacy seemed like cool dudes when I first met them, but after they got paid, they were different people. John gave me an attitude when I insisted there was something wrong and the noise was not normal - when I referenced a YouTube video that talked about properly bleeding the air out on these models, he laughed at me and told me he watches "funny videos" on YouTube too.

As part of the rack replacement, they had also replaced all four struts and when I let them know about a vibration at highway speeds after the work, they told me they couldn't feel anything and it seemed great to them. Same with the power steering noise - they couldn't hear anything, at least not anything concerning. You be the judge - if you think the sound in the video above is normal, and not indicative of cavitation or other problem with the power steering pump, then you probably need to turn the sound on... they ended up refunding me the money for the alignment because they couldn't figure out the vibration, but even still - I don't believe these guys are high quality mechanics. When I crawled under the vehicle after the work, I noticed several things - like a damaged tie rod end boot - which they said they would take care of when I pointed it out. But they ended up charging me for it anyway and I had to call them on it and they argued with me that it was normal wear and tear, but any sane person looking at the clearly clean cut in the boot would know that was from a tool being used to pop the tie-rod end off, and not dry-rotted or cracked from use. They also left the ABS sensor lines dangling where they could be damaged by the rotating tires instead of fastening them to the struts they replaced. When I told John about he was like "In all my years of being a mechanic, I've never had anyone complain about abs sensor wires" - yeah, because most people don't crawl under their vehicle to see the crappy work you guys do and think your charm and personality means their vehicles got the same treatment.

I am so tired of mechanics in Northern Virginia - I have not found a single one who is trustworthy - they all seem to be wanting to dig into your wallet for the least about of work in return...

2022-09-26 - Power steering is whining after replacing the power steering rack (for the second time).

Previous video with a remanufactured rack - terrible noises:    • 2012 GMC Acadia (AWD) Power Steering Noise...

51,000 miles, well maintained - more videos and details to come pending outcome of working with mechanic who performed the work.
