I got to spend some more time with the Sony A1 II, and while I’d love even more time with the camera before sending it back, I did get a nice feel for what I liked and didn’t like about it.
Being Sony’s new flagship camera, there wasn’t much I didn’t like, other than the AI autofocusing system sometimes being ‘too good’ - in other words, there were times when I wanted to ‘touch to focus’ on something in the frame, but the AI AF wanted to lock onto something else, like a car for example. However, I really do think this had more to do with me not dialing in my AF settings for what I was shooting. I can’t really hold this against the camera until I have even more time with it and I can experiment and fine-time those parameters.
But yeah, these are some of my takeaways as far as video is concerned. This camera has the best of all of Sony’s other alpha cameras. Sure, there’s the FX3 which shares a lot of these specs and has the insane 12800 2nd base ISO - but that’s a 12 mp sensor and part of Sony’s Cinema Line.
Will I buy this camera? Probably not…It’s just not necessarily what I need (though, it has everything I want*).
Personally, I’m holding out to see what Sony does with the A7V 🤞 hopefully I get to test that one out soon for you guys.
