Crime overall is down 16 percent in Prince George’s County. That was the big takeaway at a press conference held by police this afternoon.

In terms of specifics:

As of May 26 of this year (compared with all of 2024), property crimes are down 13%, carjackings down 54%, commercial burglaries down 64%, and homicides down 36%. Rape is down, 26%. And domestic violence incidents are down 23 %.

Police say they are poised to begin their summer crime initiative, which goes into effect on June 12 and runs through August 30,

In addition to a juvenile curfew at National Harbor, police will concentrate on high crime areas.

As for progress made, Acting Prince George’s County Executive, Tara Jackson had this to say: “These aren’t random improvements, we focused efforts to help reduce crime and have been targeted in certain communities and are deliberate, strategic investments that we’ve made since day one are paying off.”
