Product Management - Great PMs don’t just solve problems 🤯 they reframe them into opportunities 🎯 🚀

Just came across a great speech from JD Vance pushing leaders to shift how we talk about AI - moving from AI safety to responsible AI, from risk to opportunity. Language shapes thought! I never thought a U.S. VP’s speech would make it into my posts, but here we are.

Reframing is a product superpower, too. Great PMs see problems differently - they frame them in ways that unlock action, buy-in, and results.

Here are a few examples:

1️⃣ Tech Debt → Competitive Edge
Many teams treat tech debt as a drag, prioritizing the right infrastructure work unlocks faster iteration cycles, scalability, and developer velocity - “maintenance” becomes growth strategy.

2️⃣ Regulatory Compliance → Trust & Market Expansion
PMs groan at GDPR, SOC2, and PCI, but as you grow, being compliant and getting ahead of regulatory requirements unlock markets e.g. new geos and enterprise deals.

3️⃣ Customer Support → Retention & Upsell Driver
Handled well, support can be a revenue engine. Customers who have a problem resolved well often become more loyal than those who never had an issue in the first place.

4️⃣ Internal Tools & Automation → Product Velocity
Building internal tools feels like a tax on engineering - until you realize automation frees up developers for high-leverage problems and smoother paths from MVP to scale.

5️⃣ Data Instrumentation → Long-Term Competitive Moat
Many underinvest in instrumentation because the upfront it may cost time and resources. But when decisions rely on bad data, retrofitting analytics slows teams and forces tough trade-offs.

7️⃣ Performance & Page Speed → Organic Growth Driver
Backend performance is often overlooked as a “tech problem,” but it’s a massive lever for conversion and SEO. Amazon famously found that every 100ms of latency cost them 1% in revenue.
