Effective engineering teams must learn in order to not build up learning debt.
What does it take to foster a workplace culture where employees, in particular developers, can learn without feeling punished for it by the system? Innovation is impossible without failure, but most work cultures suffocate creativity without realizing it.
Welcome to the Software Engineering Unlocked Podcast. In this episode, my guest, Dr. Cat Hicks, and I discuss her delving away from a traditional path of a researcher to start her company, Catharsis Consulting, the learning debt and how learning isn’t acknowledged because it’s never measured, and more!
Dr. Cat Hicks is a data scientist, a behavioral scientist, and a creative entrepreneur. She's the Principal of Catharsis Consulting, an evidence science consultancy that does research + data.
Living at the intersection of different (and sometimes opposing) worlds, Cat is a data scientist who cares more about how we measure things than the bigness of our data, a creative fiction writer with a mathy bent, and a rigorous researcher who is laser-focused on social impact and the messy interactions of the real world. She loves using data and stories to make better sense of the world, and she envisions a human-centered, heartfelt future for our data understanding.
