Let us learn today #sdg14 ‘Life below Water’ having goal ‘to conserve and sustainably use the world’s ocean, seas and marine resources.’
Oceans sustain life on our planet and control the climate system on a global scale. They contain approximately a million recognised species, making them the largest ecosystem in the world. They also hold a tremendous amount of unrealized scientific potential.
A record amount of ocean heat is harming the world's diverse ecosystems, generating severe marine heatwaves, and destroying coral reefs. Increased oceanic trash is also having a significant negative environmental and economic impact. In coastal regions, tourism accounts for about 80% of all travel. Tourism can pose a serious threat to the natural resources it depends on, as well as to local culture and business, if it is not properly managed.
Our health and the health of the water are closely related.
Additionally, the diversity of marine animals holds considerable promise for the development of new medicines. We must act now to preserve our oceans which has enough for everybody's needs but not greed
Sustainability in open ocean and deep sea regions may only be attained through enhanced international collaboration to safeguard delicate habitats. To preserve biodiversity and make sure that the fishing industry has a viable future, systems of government-protected areas should be established that are comprehensive, efficient, and fairly maintained.
