Reversible Processes 🔄
Reversible processes are changes that can be undone by reversing the conditions. In these processes, the system and surroundings can be restored to their original states without any permanent change. Some common examples include:
Melting and Freezing of Water 🧊💧: Water can change from solid ice to liquid water and back to ice.
Dissolving Sugar in Water 🧂💧: Sugar can dissolve in water and be recovered by evaporating the water.
In reversible processes, the energy change is minimal, and the system stays close to equilibrium ⚖️.
Irreversible Processes 🔥
Irreversible processes are changes that cannot be undone. Once these processes occur, the system and surroundings cannot be restored to their original states. Some examples include:
Burning of Paper 📰🔥: Once paper burns, it turns to ash and cannot be turned back into paper.
Rusting of Iron ⚙️🌧️: Iron exposed to moisture and oxygen forms rust, a process that cannot be reversed.
In irreversible processes, there is a significant energy change, and the system moves away from equilibrium 🌀.
