Agile Lessons from the World of Roller Derby - Sheffield Ruby - November 2017

Roller Derby is an assertive team sport which is played on roller skates and requires large amounts of skill, agility and flexibility. This talk will delve into the world of Roller Derby and what is necessary for team success. It uses Roller Derby to illustrate how behaviours we think are useful can sometimes be harmful and this leads to a discussion of patterns and anti-patterns in Agile software development.

This talk would be useful to team members, people who manage software teams and anyone who wants to learn more about roller derby! They will leave with an understanding of what good looks like as well as a list of anti-patterns to watch out for.

About our speaker:
Louise Elliott has worked in the software world for longer than she cares to remember as developer, technical architect and manager.
She is passionate about cosmology, photography, visiting Antarctica (if only), roller derby, artificial intelligence, bridge (the card game not things that help you cross rivers), war poetry and politics and she will talk endlessly about all of these given half the chance. She believes that people are infinitely fascinating and that managing people is like the most complex multivariable multithreaded system you ever encountered.
She has also been known to rather enjoy using a loudhailer…
