Why I’m Choosing Supabase Over Firebase

Ever had a development tool cause so much trouble that it literally woke you up in the middle of the night? 😩 For me, that tool was Firebase. Don’t get me wrong—Firebase is popular for good reasons. It’s widely used, heavily supported by Google, and easy to integrate. But personally, I’ve had too many frustrating experiences to trust Firebase in my own projects anymore. That’s exactly why I’ve switched to Supabase, and in this short, I’m sharing why I think it’s a superior alternative.

My Firebase nightmare literally had me waking up at 2 AM dealing with issues that should have been avoidable. Troubleshooting in the middle of the night isn’t exactly what I’d call ideal—and definitely not sustainable for my mental or physical health. When you’re building something meaningful, you need tools you can rely on consistently. For me, Firebase wasn’t cutting it.

Enter Supabase. Why am I sold on it? Here are a few key reasons:

✅ Open Source: Unlike Firebase, Supabase is fully open source. This transparency provides peace of mind knowing exactly what’s going on under the hood. Open source tools give developers greater control, flexibility, and trust.

✅ Strong Community Support: Supabase has a passionate, active community of developers behind it. The support and documentation are excellent, and community contributions continuously improve the product.

✅ Reliability & Stability: Supabase’s infrastructure has proven to be more reliable and stable for my projects. I’ve experienced fewer late-night emergencies and significantly less downtime. That’s exactly the kind of reliability every developer dreams of.

Choosing the right backend service is critical for developers. It impacts your project’s speed, scalability, maintenance, and ultimately, your peace of mind. While Firebase may work well for many, my personal experiences drove me to look elsewhere, and I’m incredibly glad I found Supabase. This decision improved my overall workflow, reduced my stress levels, and boosted my confidence in deploying reliable, secure apps.
