The Vietnam War is one of the biggest disasters in U.S. history. Here we take a look at shocking statistics and facts about this devastating conflict. During the war, 58,000 American soldiers died. More than 60% were under the age of 21. Vietnamese casualty estimates vary greatly — between 1 and 5 million. The conflict spread into neighboring Cambodia and Laos. Over 8 million tons of bombs were dropped on the three countries combined — four times the amount used against Nazi Germany during World War II.
