Elections Series: South Africa 2021 Municipal Elections

On Monday, November 1st, South Africans go to the polls to elect local councils and mayors in this year's municipal elections. We brought together a panel of scholars with expertise in the country to discuss the main issues and potential implications of this local election.

The discussion, which took place on October 21st, was moderated by Evan Lieberman (MIT) and features Rorisang Lekalake (MIT), Hugo van der Merwe (Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation) and Tshegofatso Putu (Trinity College).
