Where the Competition Commission of South Africa has had little success at prosecuting excessive pricing cases prior to amendment, since then - combined with the Covid-19 pandemic necessitating the utilisation of price gouging under the rubric of excessive prices - South Africa has seen an increase in the number of these cases initiated and a higher rate of prosecutorial success.
