This is a great strategy for working on frontal lisps and lateral lisps.
Using the straw helps the child understand where to put their tongue and how to direct the airflow out the front of the mouth instead of over the lateral sides of the tongue.
The idea is to use a strategy like this to help the child get the correct placement for /s/ and then help them maintain that placement and production without the straw.
Once they can say the sound correctly by itself without the straw, you can work on saying that sound in syllables, then words, then sentences.
