Why do we grow so much corn? 🌽🤔Part 1

Why does the U.S. grown enough acres of corn to cover the entire state of California and what do we do with 845 billion pounds of corn?

Each year around 35-40% gets fed to livestock 🐄
35-40% gets turned into ethanol ⛽️
10-15% is exported to other countries 🌎
8-10% is used in food & beverages. Mostly in the form of corn syrup 🥤
The remaining 1-2% gets made into bioolastics, packaging and other non-food items 📦

But what I really want to know, is how we got to this point where 1 in 3 farmers grow this one particular crop. So we’re gonna dive into the history of corn’s dominance in the next video video 🌽
