Don't go through the "Front Door" if you don't have to when it comes to software developer job interviews. The "Front Door" is when you go to the company website, click on "careers" and apply. Use that as a last resort. The best way is to get to know someone at the company (typically via twitter or local meetups) and ask for a referral. This route is almost a guaranteed interview. From there... it's up to you.
