I put my daughter into dance classes at 1-year-old. She fell in love with the Art but not all of the teachers and schools. Dance is one of the ways she fulfills her homeschool PE credit, makes new friends and burns energy to ensure earlier bedtimes.
One great thing about homeschooling is that I have the freedom to hand select the curriculum AND the teachers. Homeschooling parents rarely are willing to just drop out kids off for lessons, parties nor classes. We just don’t 100% trust others with our children. (Being a former Children’s Attorney doesn’t help me trust people with my child either.) But, the things we have seen and experienced have more than warranted my hesitation.
The best thing about homeschooling is that I am able to hand choose the coursework, the teachers and the curriculum. If the subject is loved but not the teacher nor the school isn’t, we find another. Being present also lets me immediately address behaviors and teachings that do not meet our values with my daughter. This was particularly important when I had to correct some history teachings in one of her classes to include diversity.
By my standing up for my daughter and teaching her how to stand up for and care for herself and others.
