Despite the discovery of medications that can prevent HIV infection, 1.7 million people worldwide are still infected each year. Jake Rhodes, PhD, of Emory University received a 2023 PhRMA Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship in Translational Medicine for his research using two biomarkers to identify individuals at significantly higher risk of HIV infection, with a goal of better prioritizing the implementation of HIV prevention measures and medications.
