Elon Musk has officially rolled out XChat, a new encrypted messaging feature on the X platform (formerly Twitter), positioning it as a potential rival to WhatsApp and other secure chat apps.
Key features of XChat:
End-to-end encryption for private messaging
Audio and video calling without needing a phone number
Support for disappearing messages and file sharing of all types
A four-digit passcode system for added message protection
Built using the Rust programming language, known for security and performance
XChat is currently being made available to premium (paid) users and is part of Musk’s broader push to turn X into a comprehensive “everything app,” blending social media, communications, and services.
Musk claims XChat offers a level of encryption and privacy comparable to blockchain technologies, and he’s aiming to give users a seamless, secure alternative to dominant apps like WhatsApp and Signal.
