The brutal abduction and murder of Hindu leader Bhabesh Chandra Roy in Bangladesh’s Dinajpur district has sparked outrage and deepened concerns over a sharp rise in anti-Hindu violence since Sheikh Hasina’s ouster. India has strongly condemned the killing, calling it part of a broader, systematic persecution of minorities under the interim Muhammad Yunus-led government. Despite eyewitness accounts of Roy’s assault and visible injuries, local police dubiously labeled his death as “natural,” while media outlets like The Daily Star quickly retracted their reports, allegedly under state pressure. This is not an isolated case—prominent Hindu voices, including ISKCON priest Chinmoy Krishna Das, have been jailed for peaceful protests, and his lawyer now faces death threats. India’s government has repeatedly urged Bangladesh to ensure the safety of minorities, citing over 2,400 minority-related incidents in under a year. With historical roots of Hinduphobia, ongoing mob attacks, displacement, and desecration of temples, the Hindu population in Bangladesh has shrunk drastically. While Bangladesh’s interim leadership downplays the crisis, UN and Amnesty reports confirm widespread violence.
