SteamOS and its impact on the Linux Ecosystem (Olivier Tilloy, Igalia)

SteamOS, Valve's Linux based OS, is more than just the foundation of the
Steam Deck: it has become a driving force behind several advancements in
the world of gaming on Linux. Designed to give Valve greater control
over the gaming experience, SteamOS has also led to significant
contributions to the broader Linux ecosystem, from kernel improvements
to better hardware support and system optimizations.

With a strong upstream-first approach, SteamOS has benefited multiple
open source projects, both directly and indirectly. In this talk, I'll
explore some of these contributions, focusing on work done by my
colleagues at Igalia and myself. We'll cover enhancements in kernel
subsystems, disk encryption, and other integration efforts that are
helping shape the future of gaming on Linux.
