Constructed in 17th Century AD during the regime of famous Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, Shalimar Gardens a.k.a. Shalamar Bagh Lahore is held on UNESCO's World Heritage List since 1983. The Shalimar Gardens are laid out in three stages each with a difference of 15 feet elevation. Each stage is called a 'Takht' and every takht has a unique name with special significance and meaning attached to it. The highest and the biggest stage called "Farah Bakhsh Takht" was reserved for the Royals and is the largest in area. The second takht called "Faiz Bakhsh Takht" was reserved for Royal hospitality for visiting dignitaries and delegates. The last and the lowest stage called "Hayat Bakhsh Takht" was open to general public and was meant to encourage citizens to adopt healthy life style of exercise and activity instead of sedentary habits. Mughals emperors had special fondness for nature, architecture and development of civic structures and Shalimar Gardens are a living testimony of that positive historical movement that helped enrich an otherwise dull Indian Society of that era. This video provides a brief historical perspective and glimpses of the magnificent, majestic and mesmerizing Shalimar Gardens Lahore using video clips and pictures taken during the recent visit by Travelinfo's special correspondents to the world renowned Shalimar Gardens.
