Color output of the Daylon Life program, accompanied by Tears for Fears "The Working Hour". An example of cellular automata used to create a pyschadelic animation. About 9000 frames were rendered. The algorithm is simple enough to run in realtime, and would probably fit on today's GPU pixel shader units, but it does require a large amount of storage for prerendered frames. The colors are created by phase-cycling grayscale automata output between RGB channels.
