Dr. Don T. Curtis, a dental surgeon and oral and maxillofacial surgery resident at Parkland Memorial Hospital, was among the first to treat President John F. Kennedy after he was shot on November 22, 1963. He provided emergency care in the trauma room, including inserting an endotracheal tube and attempting to establish IV access. Curtis later testified that the president's wounds were incompatible with life and that he saw a portion of Kennedy’s brain exposed.
